A single gorilla permit in Volcanoes National park costs $1500 allowing you to spend an hour with the endangered gorillas. Gorilla trekking is the most done travel activity which bring many travelers to Volcanoes National Park. Regarding golden monkey trekking, it is the second to gorillas in Volcanoes National Park. There are two golden monkey communities which have been habituated in this bamboo forest park. Interestingly, the permit to trek golden monkeys costs $100 which is quite affordable compared to gorilla permits. Both experiences last for an hour. You will also visit the Gorilla Guardian Vilage, former Ibyiwacu cultural village to learn and experience Rwanda;s traditions, norms, customs and beliefs. In addition to primates, Volcanoes National ark is a paradise for birder’s sheltering over 180 bird species. Some birds to see include Ruwenzori Apalis, African long eared owl, Ruwenzori night jar, Handsome Francolin, Brown necked parrot, and Red backed shrike among others. Other activities to do in Volcanoes National park include Volcano climbing (Karisimbi & Bisoke), Dian Fossey Grave yard hike, nature walks, Musanze caves and visiting the twin lakes. Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes NP
On arrival, you will be received and welcomed by our company representative before hitting the road to Volcanoes National Park in Musanze province. En route; enjoy the beautiful views of the rolling hills and green vegetation. Dinner and overnight at The Garden Place (Budget), Davinci Gorilla Lodge (Midrange), Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (Luxury).
Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Trekking and Iby’wacu Cultural Center
Enjoy an early morning breakfast and assemble at the Kinigi park head offices by 7:00am for morning briefing on the trekking guidelines before taking onto your adventurous expedition. Usually, it takes about 30 minutes to several hours to encounter the mountain gorillas; but once got, enjoy an hour with them before retrieving to the starting point (for Certificates of Participation) before retrieving your lodge. Later in the afternoon, head out for the Iby’wacu Cultural tour for a clearer understanding of the Rwandese Culture. Dinner and overnight at The Garden Place (Budget), Davinci Gorilla Lodge (Midrange), Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (Luxury).
Day 3: Golden Monkeys and Visit to Twin Lakes of Ruhondo and Burera
Have an early morning breakfast and retrieve the Kinigi park offices by 7:00am for morning briefing on the golden monkey tracking code of conduct. Unlike mountain gorillas, golden monkeys exist in large families and can be seen jumping from one tree branch to another; playing and looking for food. You are granted an hour with the playful creatures before returning to your lodge, have lunch and in the afternoon, take a walk to the beautiful twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. Dinner and overnight at The Garden Place (Budget), Davinci Gorilla Lodge (Midrange), Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (Luxury).
Day 4: Kigali City and Departure
Have breakfast at leisure and set off for Kigali for an amazing Kigali City Tour; visiting the Gisozi Genocide Memorial Site, National Museum and many other exceptional tourist centers within the city before drop off at either a hotel or airport for departure flight.
